Visafone

Visafone Communications Ltd., operating in Nigeria (Africa), was a CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) mobile network provider. Its presence was primarily within Nigeria, aiming to provide mobile voice and data services. Visafone was identified by the Mobile Country Code (MCC) 621, unique to Nigeria, and the Mobile Network Code (MNC) 25. This combination allowed mobile devices to correctly identify and connect to the Visafone network. Acquired by MTN Nigeria in 2016, Visafone's spectrum assets were integrated into MTN's network, particularly to enhance its 4G LTE capabilities, offering improved internet speeds and coverage. Prior to the acquisition, Visafone competed with other Nigerian mobile networks like MTN, Globacom, Airtel, and 9mobile (formerly Etisalat), offering a distinct CDMA technology-based service compared to the GSM technology employed by most of it's competitors. While CDMA wasn’t as widely adopted as GSM in Nigeria, Visafone carved out a notable segment, primarily focusing on data services.
